BURTON LANE (Music) (1912-1997) began his career-in the 1920's. He had music in three Broadway shows when he was 17 years old.  When he was 21, Irving Berlin sent him to Hollywood to see if he could place a song in a movie. His collabarator then was Harold Adamson. It happened quickly. The song was "Everything I Have Is Yours" for a film starring Joan Crawford;  it was a big hit and he was signed by MGM. He stayed in Hollywood for many years and wrote with a notable collection of lyricists, including Frank Loesser, Yip Harburg. Alan Jay Lerner and Ira Gershwin. He wrote songs for more than 45 films, to become one of America's most distinguished composers of popular music. In the movie Royal Wedding, Fred Astaire famously dances on the ceiling to his "You're All The World To Me.”  He is also credited with discovering the 11 year-old Frances Gumm,  later to be known as Judy Garland. In addition to FINIAN’S RAINBOW , his Broadway scores include Earl Carroll's Vanities (1931), Hold On To Your Hats, Laffing RoomOnly, Carmelina and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.
